11 Foods that make you look younger

Fine lines, sunspots and?loose skin are some of the most common signs of aging. Though we cannot turn back time, numerous superfoods can help improve visible signs of aging like wrinkles and dark spots. Some of these foods also strengthen bones, fight inflammation and promote blood circulation, all of which contribute to looking radiant and youthful later in life.

Say goodbye to anti-wrinkle creams and serums.?Here are 11 nutritious and organic foods that can help you look younger.

      Extra virgin olive oil

Extra virgin olive oil is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids that help protect the skin from sun damage. This oil consists of almost 73 percent monounsaturated fat, which helps restore skin elasticity and firmness.

      Green tea

Green tea leaves are an excellent source of plant compounds called polyphenols that reduce inflammation and neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can damage skin cells, which leads to the appearance of wrinkles and blemishes. Polyphenols also protect collagen, a protein that provides structural support for skin cells, bone cells and muscle cells.

      Fatty fishes

Like extra virgin olive oil, fatty fishes like salmon, sardines and mackerel are rich in omega-3s. Salmon, in particular, contains an antioxidant called astaxanthin that keeps the skin firm and moisturized.

      Dark chocolate

Dark chocolate is another popular anti-aging food. Its antioxidant profile is even more impressive than those of antioxidant-rich fruits like cherries and blueberries. Flavonols, the main antioxidants found in dark chocolate, help protect the skin from the damaging effects of sun exposure. These antioxidants also improve blood circulation and enhance the smoothness of the skin.

      Vegetables

Leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables do an excellent job of keeping premature aging at bay. Nutrient-rich veggies are rich in antioxidants that protect against sun damage and free radical-induced inflammation. These antioxidants include beta carotene and vitamins C and E.

      Flaxseeds

Lignans in flaxseeds keep the skin smooth and hydrated. Flaxseeds also contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid that fights the harmful effects of sun radiation.

      Pomegranate

As one of the healthiest fruits, the pomegranate is?another excellent source of antioxidants. In fact, its antioxidant properties appear to be even greater than that of green tea. Pomegranates help repair damaged skin and stimulate collagen production to enhance overall skin health.

      Avocados

The omega-3 oils in avocados help reverse skin damage caused by sun exposure and free radicals. Avocados also have unique plant compounds called?polyhydroxylated fatty alcohols that fight inflammation and repair damaged deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).

      Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain high levels of lycopene, a plant pigment that gives these plump little fruits their bright red hue. Lycopene also acts as an antioxidant to stall the appearance of sunspots from too much sun exposure. Lycopene can also reduce the depth of visible wrinkles and fine lines.

      Herbs and spices

Herbs and spices are nutritional and medicinal powerhouses. Most of them contain potent antioxidants and active plant compounds that can boost collagen production, improve skin elasticity and protect against sun damage. Some of these anti-aging herbs and spices include basil, cinnamon, cumin, ginger, rosemary, thyme, parsley, lavender and turmeric.

      Bone broth

Bone broth is a rich, nutritious liquid made by boiling animal bones and connective tissues. It is hailed for its protective effects against skin cell damage thanks to its high collagen and gelatin content.

Skin health is a good indicator of internal health. Unlike cosmetic anti-aging creams and serums, anti-aging superfoods restore the skin from the inside.?Although this list is in no way exhaustive, these foods provide a great place to start.

In addition to eating more of these anti-aging foods, exercise often and get enough sleep. You can also practice mindfulness exercises to better manage the stress that leads to wrinkles and fine lines.
